Festival at Port Glasgow

After a long gap of many years the band returned to Port Glasgow to give a programme of music just like they did every August in the past. On a wild West of Scotland summer evening the band were delighted to see a full hall as the programme began. A packed hall welcomed the band onto the platform and the warmth of their applause shone through - yes - the "Port" were pleased to welcome back "Old Campaigners" - Govan Band!

The evening started with the march Mighty to Save followed by a good mix of music to appeal to everyone there. The evening included a number of soloists and the thought was brought by colonels David & Grace Napier who once again was sharing the festival with the band as the leaders of the Port’s 125th Anniversary weekend

GCB last Carol to village locals - December, 2006

Govan Citadel Band was delighted to play carols in the small main street of Lochwinnoch right outside the Bakery of Mr Robert Wilson. Robert who is a great supporter of the band and corps was celebrating his last Christmas in his business before he enters into retirement in 2007.

Robert who has his own Army band in his shop window was surprised when a small group from the Govan Band appeared to play some carols to him and his customers. With many villagers looking on and singing along with the band Robert and his staff proceeded to offer Christmas pies to everyone. Also present was Commissioner Keith Banks the representative of the Territorial Commander in Scotland, who was seen with the bandsmen in the bakery being treated to freshly made produce after playing.

The band would like to wish Robert a very happy retirement when it comes and thank him for all his support he offers to the Band.
